Grand Junction, CO – School District 51 board members voted to allow a certain marijuana product to be administered on school property.
In accordance with state law and the school district’s capabilities, students who attend D51 schools can now have cannabidiol products administered on them, but only if it’s done by a parent or guardian.
These products must either be in a serum or edible form.
Once the medication has been given to the student, their parent or guardian then takes it off school property with them to ensure student safety.
“They have to come from their home, bring it in, administer it to their child, and then they have to take it off, but there’s not a designated area necessary and it can be on school campus”, says Dr. Amy Davis who’s one of the board members for D51.
The parent or guardian must have a medicinal marijuana license and approval of their child’s pediatrician to provide this type of medication to their children.
The district’s decision keeps them from violating state laws while respecting the rights of Colorado families.
