Mixing up this chia spirulina pudding isn’t difficult at all and only requires a few key ingredients plus some spices and vanilla/almond extract for flavor.
To start making your spirulina chia seed pudding recipe, you’ll need your favorite plant-based milk.
Plant milk (aka non-dairy milk) is a plant beverage that has a similar color and consistency to cow’s milk and can replace dairy milk in recipes.
Popular types of plant milk include coconut, soy, oat, hemp, and many types of nut milks. Non-dairy milk is ideal if you’re vegan, lactose-intolerant, allergic to milk, or looking to reduce your cholesterol intake.
To sweeten your pudding, we recommend using dates. While you could always use your favorite sweetener if you don’t have dates on hand or don’t care for them, we love all the nutrients packed into dates — including iron, potassium, B vitamins, copper, and magnesium.
Another key ingredient in this chia pudding is, of course, the chia seeds. Chia seeds are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which make them a great choice for helping to prevent inflammatory diseases.
For flavor, add some cinnamon and either almond or vanilla extract.
Last but not least for our chia spirulina pudding is the spirulina. Spirulina is a type of blue-green freshwater algae that’s rich in nutrients including chlorophyll, vitamins, and minerals. Just be aware that your pudding will end up a fun shade of pale blue-green, so it’s a super fun HEALTHY food to consume on St. Patrick’s Day.
