Dismantling of Marijuana Distribution and Processing Hub in Dasmariñas, Cavite (August 26, 2020)
A confidential informant reported to PDEA Regional Office IV-A (PDEA ROIV-A) that an organized drug group composed of big-time drug dealers are rampantly involved in the distribution of marijuana in the CALABARZON area. Based on the supplied information, the group is capable of processing marijuana and distributes them using local courier shipping services, and online transactions.
Their modus operandi involves the concealment of the illegal hemp inside boxes of a local coffee product, including baking brownies spiked with marijuana ingredients.
Subsequently, operatives of PDEA ROIV-A undergone the standard process of evaluation, verification and validation of the information provided.
On August 22, 2020 at around 3:15 in the afternoon, joint elements of PDEA ROIV-A Laguna Provincial Office under Director Jigger Montallana; Laguna Provincial Office (PO); Laguna Drug Enforcement Unit –Provincial Intelligence Branch (PDEU-PIB); and Santa Rosa City Police Station conducted a buy-bust operation in a parking lot of a supermarket along Barangay Balibago, Santa Rosa City, Laguna.
Arrested during the operation was suspect identified as Aldrin Espeña y Ampuan, 28 years old, jobless. Seized from him were bundles of marijuana wrapped in transparent plastic, and marijuana contained inside pouches of a local courier service concealed in coffee boxes, weighing a total of 2,471.6502 grams, with an estimated market value of ₱648,000, and one Nissan Navara.
Espeña is now facing charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) in relation to Section 26 (b), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 before the Prosecutors of Santa Rosa, Laguna.
The buy-bust operation led to the implementation of a search warrant four days later (August 26, 2020). Combined operatives of PDEA ROIV-A Laguna PO and Cavite PO; Laguna RDEU-IVA; Cavite PIB and Dasmariñas City Police Station raided a house in Maiden Hair Street, Greenwoods Heights Subdivision, Barangay Paliparan Uno, Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
The house was found to be a processing and distribution hub for marijuana. Confiscated inside were 146.878 kilos of marijuana dried leaves, seeds and stalks, with an estimated market value of ₱14,400,000, and assorted drug paraphernalia.
However, six occupants of the house were able to evade arrest. Names of the suspects (withheld) were already identified. They remain at large.
The suspects are now facing charges for violation of Section 8 (Manufacture of Dangerous Drugs), Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), and Section 16 (Cultivation or Culture of Plants Classified as Dangerous Drugs or are Sources thereof), Article II of RA 9165 before the Dasmariñas City Prosecutors Office.
The discovery of the marijuana processing and distribution hub also led to the disbandment of the organized group who is behind its operation. Report revealed that the group operates nationwide through the use of local courier services and transactions were made online. Moreover, the group has kitchen wares for production of marijuana brownies. They are also into cultivation of marijuana plants as evidenced by the seized containers full of marijuana seedlings and several soil pots with newly planted seeds.
